Brokerage Accounts

There are two types of brokerage account ownership:

• Individual brokerage account

  An individual account is a standard brokerage account with only one owner.

• Joint brokerage account

  A joint brokerage account is held by two or more owners, most commonly spouses, but can also be opened between family members or two individuals with mutual financial goals.
  1. Joint Tenants with Rights of Survivorship (JTWROS): A joint account that has two or more account owners, with each person having an undivided interest in the entire property.
  2. Tenants in Common: A joint account that has two or more account owners, with each person owning a specified percentage of the entire property.
